INCUBUS EN LIMA: Mis primeras impresiones. (INCUBUS IN LIMA: My first impressions)

Cuando me enteré me quedé en shock por algunos segundos e inmediatamente salté y grité de alegría. Creo que a los que estamos entre los 25 y 30 años nos ha tocado vivir una buena época conciertera, he tenido el privilegio de ver a mis bandas favoritas en estos últimos 3 años, las bandas con las que crecí, pasé mi adolescencia, la época de la universidad, etc.

When I first found out Incubus was playing here soon I just was speechless. Inmediately I jump out of my seat and screamed. I think that we peruvians in our middle-twenties have been really lucky in concert matters these last three years. I've had the privilege to see almost all my favorite bands live, the bands I grew up listenning to.

Pero Incubus (oh, Incubus) fue mi banda de cabecera durante toda mi adolescencia. Sí, escuchaba otras bandas como The Offspring y Limp Bizkit o Korn mas yo entendí con ellos que la música no sólo es sonido, es concepto, es arte, es una forma de ver el mundo y de vivir. Teniendo como frontman y baterista a dos artistas plásticos (Brandon Boyd y José Pasillas II) y aliándose con un estupendo guitarrista como Mike Einziger y en principio el bajista Dirk Lance comenzaron a crear melodías que sí, en principio coqueteaban con el funk y el jazz pero poco a poco comenzaron a tomar una forma más progresiva e innovadora. Lo novedoso también en ellos fue tener la participación de un DJ (DJ Kilmore) quien les ayudó a dar forma a su sonido característico.

However, Incubus (oh, Incubus) was MY band growing up. Indeed I listened to other bands like The Offspring, Limp Bizkit and Korn but with Incubus I understood that music was more than armonic sound - it is a concept, is art, a point of view and a way of living. Having two visual artist as band members (Brandon Boyd and José Pasillas II) and mixing that view with incredible talented guitarrist Mike Einziger and former bass player Dirk Lance starting creating music that first was influenced by jazz and funk but then evolved into a more sofisticated and innovative alternative rock. Another unique characteristic about them was a DJ in their formation (DJ Kilmore) which helped built their original sound.

Toda esta mezcla hizo de esta banda una especie de icono entre mediados de los años 90s y 2000s. Si bien no son una banda mainstream por excelencia, la calidad de su música es impecable, va evolucionando, explora y reinventa sonidos y conceptos; y nos mantiene a nosotros, sus seguidores, enganchados día tras día. Y tengo un montón más de anécdotas y cosas curiosas que me acurrieron a partir de conocer y escuchar a esta banda, pero eso ya será tema de otro post. Pues bien, estoy super emocionada de verlos en vivo, y esta es tal vez mi razón (entre otras cosas) de retomar el escribir en este rincón del ciberespacio.

This wild mixture of personalities and talents made this band an icon in between the 90s and 2000s. Not considered an ordinary mainstream band, despite of their well-known popularity and reach, their impecable and evolving sound is what keep us fans cautivated by their work on a daily basis. Furthermore I have lots of anecdots and stories to tell about how inspiring was for me knowing and loving this band but I'll talk about that later. In the meantime I'm so excited to see them live soon, and this is in addition my reason to start blogging again.
